Have you ever had this happen? You get a new car (or, a new to you car). Before you got this model or color of car you had not noticed that many of them on the road. But after you get yours, all of a sudden you are seeing that model or color vehicle all over the place.
Did everyone rush out and buy that type or color car just after you got yours? Of course not. But we are suddenly just more aware of that model or color and are looking for it.
I wonder if the same principle applies to the way we look at people. Particularly people of a different race, religion, ethnicity or, well, you name the group. Somewhere in our life we heard, “Oh, what else can you expect from one of them?” Somewhere someone told us that we should expect certain negative behavior from people from a certain group. We watch them and, sure enough, we see that kind of behavior all the time in people with that background.
But, does that kind of behavior occur more in that group than in our own? Or are we just looking for it more and expecting it to be there?
What are you looking for?
Think about it.
You are loved. Peace.
