For those of you who have followed my posts for any length of time you will have noticed that there are several recurring themes in my messages. One of those is the importance of seemingly small, positive acts that all of us are capable of doing throughout the course of every day. Case in point – please, never pass up the opportunity to say, “Thank you.”
This may seem like a very minor or even insignificant thing to do in the overall scheme of changing the world. But, here is the thing, there will be very few MLK jrs or Mother Teresas. However, all of us will interact with people every day. The question is, will our interaction have positive or negative consequences?
Please, never pass up the opportunity to say, "Thank you."
It is my belief that the simple act of saying, “Thank you,” is not a simple act. It is an easy to perform action that can have far reaching ramifications. When you take the time to say these words to someone, especially a stranger you may interact with during the course of your day, you affirm the value of the act of kindness and/or courtesy that they have shown you. More than that, you are affirming them as a fellow human being. Your thank you is saying, “I see you. I appreciate that you are choosing to act in a positive way. You have made my day a bit better.”
But it does not stop there. Not only are you letting them know that they are seen and appreciated, but your thank you is also an encouragement to that person to continue with those positive actions. In essence you are saying to that person, “You are definitely on the right track. Your kind and courteous actions are making a positive difference in the world. Keep up the good work.”
It may even be that there will be some unnoticed person quietly observing this interaction. It may encourage them to be more diligent in doing kind deeds and acknowledging kind deeds done with a heartfelt, “Thank you.”
Do you want to make a positive change in the world? Then, please, never pass up the opportunity to say, “Thank you.”
Think about it.
You are loved. Peace.
